Work is a blessing. It is good and beneficial to us—both to who we are as people and for the ordering and prioritizing of our lives. We need to work—not just to earn money for our own needs and the needs of our family and children, but also to tame and frame our character and bring it into alignment with the person and leader that God intends each of us to be. God has a purpose for our lives. Work cultivates discipline in our life. We need discipline to fulfill our God-given role of husband or wife, father or mother, and leader. We must learn to serve before we can lead.
Without work, our character is warped and impaired. Laziness and excess leisure time deprive us of purpose and a sense of worth. Living for our own self-interest before anything else is worthless for us as leaders, spouses, and parents. This is just as true for the millionaire as it is for the beggar.
These teachings are intended to help you achieve your goals by helping you identify your attitudes towards work and show you how viewing work as a gift and blessing can lead to a more enjoyable and fulfilling life. After going through it, you will have a better understanding of what an employer is looking for in an employee and how to use that knowledge to advance in a job, make more money, and get promotions. But mostly, I hope you will embrace work as a blessing and use it to step into your role as a leader and the person God created you to be.
